The Queensway should be sustainable from the outset. Onsite and locally sourced materials should be factored into the design and planning stages. Where possible, the re-purposing and fabrication of materials should be offered to local trades people in the first instance (tables and seating etc). Offsite material sourcing and waste removal should be a kept to a minimum. Planning and design should incorporate life-cycle assessment and urban metabolism thinking.
