Rooftop Farming

The part of the proposed QueensWay that would go over Union Turnpike passes right along the Stop & Shop facility and Home Depot. I think it would be amazing to have a rooftop farm and/or community garden plots on top of the Home Depot or the covered portion of the upper parking area of Stop & Shop, assuming of course the load bearing and other engineering checks out and the property owners allow it, etc. There are tax breaks and Dept. of Environmental Conservation incentives for property owners embracing these types of projects. This could then be integrated into the park land by directly connecting it to the bike paths/trails so people could come right in to visit or shop for fresh produce right off the farm. A connection could be made, both physically and in terms of a partnership, with the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School to work at and use the farm as a hands-on outdoor classroom.
